Greater Mesopotamia: Reconstruction of its Environment and History
The aims of the project are to reconstruct the history and the landscape of Ancient Mesopotamia, an area whose center is the great alluvial plain created by the Tigris and Euphrates. In terms of chronology, the main focus lies on the third, second and first millenia BCE.
To achieve these aims all expertise available in Belgium on Ancient Mesopotamia has been grouped into an Interuniversity Attraction Pole, a structure provided and funded by the Belgian Federal Science Office.
Since the available expertise is diverse and the specific specialities of the different universities and scientific institutions is focused on different areas and aspects of the general topic, progress has been made towards reaching the goals via different roads.
In the course of the past years much has been achieved but, in view of the vastness of the subject, much still remains to be done.
